How much of your business is actually set up?
Ten questions about your entity, licences, books, payroll, contracts, insurance and compliance. Two minutes, no email needed to see your score, and you get a list of the specific gaps with what each one actually costs you. Most owners find two or three things they did not know were missing.
Why these ten questions
Each one maps to something that actually goes wrong in small service businesses, and to something we set up. None of them are trick questions, and a low score is not a judgement — most owners who are great at their craft score badly here, because nobody ever told them this was part of the job.
- Is your business a registered legal entity, such as an LLC
- Does the business have its own bank account, separate from anything personal
- Are you licensed in every city and county you actually work in
- Are your books closed and reconciled every month
- Can you say which of your services makes the most profit per hour
- If you pay anyone to help, are they on payroll or properly set up as contractors
- Do you use a written service agreement and change order on every job
- Do you know when your annual report and licence renewals are due
- Do you have general liability insurance, and workers compensation if you have employees
- If a lender asked for financials tomorrow, could you send them
