Why most small businesses get declined on paperwork
Lenders decline plenty of healthy businesses for reasons that have nothing to do with the business. Books that do not reconcile. An entity not in good standing because an annual report was missed. Projections with no basis. No business bank history. Personal and business spending mixed in the same account, which makes real income impossible to verify.
Every one of those is a paperwork problem, and every one of them is fixable months before you apply — which is the only time fixing it is easy.
What we prepare
Because we already keep your books, run your payroll and hold your compliance calendar, most of what a lender asks for already exists and is current. We assemble it: closed financials for the periods requested, the entity documents, tax filings, the plan and projections, and a written use-of-funds statement.
We also help you build credit in the business's name rather than on your personal score — a business bank account with real history, trade accounts with suppliers who report, and a clean separation between personal and business spending.
Then we point you at the right door: SBA-backed lending, a local bank or credit union, equipment financing, or a grant programme you qualify for. Different money suits different purposes, and the cheapest money is not always the right money.
Signs you need this
- You want to buy a truck or equipment and do not know how to fund it.
- A lender asked for financials you could not produce.
- All your business credit is really your personal credit.
- You were declined and nobody explained why.
- There is a grant programme you might qualify for and no time to work it out.
- Cash flow is the only thing stopping you taking bigger work.
If two or more of these sound familiar, take the free business checkup — ten questions, two minutes, and you get the list of gaps either way.
How it works
Readiness check
We look at what a lender will see: books, standing, filings, bank history and credit separation.
Fix the gaps
Close the books, bring filings current, separate personal and business spending, start business credit.
Build the package
Financials, entity documents, projections and a written use-of-funds statement.
Point you at the right door
SBA-backed lending, a local bank, equipment finance or a grant — whichever actually suits the purpose.
What is included
- Lender-ready financial package from your closed books
- Entity and compliance documents collected and current
- Use-of-funds statement and projections
- SBA and grant application preparation support
- Business credit building: accounts, history and separation
- Guidance on which type of funding suits the purpose
All of this sits inside one package — the Whitelow Launch + Back Office Partnership — rather than being quoted as a separate service.
Who it is for
- Owners planning equipment or vehicle purchases
- Businesses that have been declined once already
- Anyone whose growth is capped by cash flow rather than demand
- Owners who want the option ready before they need it
What affects the price
Whitelow sells one package with two ways to pay: $2,497 one-time plus $597 a month, or $0 up front in exchange for a 15% stake in the LLC. Government fees and your QuickBooks subscription are passed through at cost on both. These are the factors that move what this piece of the work involves:
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Starting condition | A business already on our books is mostly ready. One starting from scratch has months of groundwork first. |
| Type of funding | An SBA package asks for more documentation than an equipment finance application. |
| Grant programmes | Grants have their own forms, deadlines and eligibility rules, which take real time to work through. |
| Lender fees | Any lender, appraisal or closing fees are theirs and are separate from our fee. |

Frequently asked questions
Can you get me approved for an SBA loan?
No one can promise that, and anyone who does is telling you something they cannot know. Approval is the lender's decision, based on your financials, your credit and their criteria. What we control is that your paperwork is complete, accurate and current, which is where a lot of applications fail before anyone looks at the business.
How long before I apply should I start?
The honest answer is several months. Lenders want to see closed books and bank history, and business credit takes time to build. Starting the month you need the money is the most common reason good businesses get told no.
What does funding preparation cost separately?
Prepared on its own, SBA and grant application preparation commonly runs in the range of $500 to $2,000. For Whitelow partners it is part of the partnership, because the underlying records are already being kept.
Do I have to personally guarantee a loan?
Most small business lending involves a personal guarantee, especially early on. That is a decision with real consequences for your household, and we will walk through it plainly with you rather than past you. If you took the Equity Partner option, note that Whitelow asks for no personal guarantee from you.
Will you tell me if I am not ready?
Yes, plainly, and with the list of what has to change first. Sending an application that will be declined costs you a hard credit pull and several weeks for nothing.
Does Whitelow lend money?
No. We prepare you and introduce you to lending partners. We have no financial interest in which lender you choose, and we will tell you when the cheapest money is not the right money.
